He is the second youngest in a family of eight children born to his parents, who are immigrants from Mali.

Career
Ibrahima Konaté began his football career at the youth level with Paris FC at the age of 14 before he moved to Sochaux youth academy.
He was promoted to the senior team and made his professional debut for Sochaux in a 1-0 loss to Auxerre on February 7, 2017.
He signed for RB Leipzig on a five-year deal on a free transfer, on June 12, 2017. He scored his first goal for Leipzig in a 4-0 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf.
